Wooden Handmade Canoes of Magnolia Hill

Handmade Canoes

If anyone visits Magnolia Hill, we usually get asked about
the wooden boats as we walk around the lake.

Buddy, my husband has made all our wooden boats.
This boat we named "Arkansas Traveler"
with its' beautiful steamed & curved wooden ribs.

Here is a cedar strip built canoe.
Each board was applied by much work!
He is like an artist except he paints with wood.
Behind it is our Dory boat that is perfect
for pictures with a bride and groom.

For several years, Buddy has gone to Wooden Boat School
in Maine to learn this craft.
One year our two sons went too as they
both love woodworking.
It was a memorable Father -Son working adventure.

This canoe is called the Sassafras.
It sits beautifully on the water and glides easily.

Before Buddy builds a boat, he is inspired by his surroundings.
Each boat is handcrafted and treasured by our family.
It is such a joy when we see them on the water.

I have learned to love the smell of sawdust!

Especially in the fall, so peaceful on the water.

Wedding photos in the boats are especially romantic.

The boathouse covers the boats and
helps keep them clean when not in use.

Buddy built the boat house too from
fallen trees that we had after a storm.

Looking for a bit of inspiration in building
for the woodworker in your life?
Here are some of Buddy's favorite
instructional books that we have in our library....
anyone who loves woodworking
would love one of these books.

A little early Christmas shopping
for the woodworker in your family...
handmade canoe paddles
are a nice beginner project.

Gooey Marshmallow S'mores with Chocolate

A fireside gathering with

 The most iconic fall dessert

to honor a season of cozy fall...
Homemade gooey Marshmallow S'mores with Chocolate!

S'mores laughs,

S’more hugs,

S’more kisses,

S’more falling in love,

S’more time together,

S’more memories to make,

But most of all

we are happiest to say

we have S’more

friends and family

to love today !

Near the Boathouse, our bonfire pit
is at the waters edge.
The picturesque setting is
ready for friends and family
to gather round a crackling campfire.

Toasting marshmallows
ready for s'mores
is a tried and true way
to enjoy a crisp fall evening.

Once the sun goes down, the bonfire goes up!

The view from the fire includes the Boathouse
built from reclaimed wood and
covering Buddy's handmade wooden canoes.
  Ready for a fireside gathering
and a cozy evening with the flavors of fall.

Sitting pretty...
Overlooking the lake,  white Adirondack chairs
circled around the fire awaiting the stars to come out.
I cannot tell you how much I enjoy
sitting here around the fire wrapped up in a

For years, Buddy and I have enjoyed fall entertaining.
Our Fall Fling party was a memory for young
and old alike when
Buddy brought out the hay wagon.
Full of hay and giggling children,
a bumpy ride through the woods
after dark was fun for all ages.

A sweet treat with a
warm chocolate center
makes a decadent finale
 to an autumn evening.

Enjoy your fall Ya'll !

In the Mood for Fall on the Porch

I love decorating for fall but this August heat is crazy!
Fall means the temperature will be cooler and
I will be much happier.
 My hydrangeas
look quite different from their gorgeous blue color as they
turn their heads toward fall colors too.  I clip and save the heads,
spray them gold to work into flower arrangements.

School bells are ringing and has started back in full swing
amid these crazy covid times.

I have started pulling out fall decor and doing a bit of shopping...

I can really tell the days are getting shorter
 which makes me love our
twinkle lights even more.
The lighting is so important especially in the fall.

On the porch my black and white seems to anchor
all the fall colors as we repainted the porch swing.
How are you decorating for fall?
The fall colors are so inspirational and once the mums, pumpkins,
corn stalks, Kale ...even purple looks good I think with the black and white!
Fall is truly a painter's pallet of color .

What are you using to decorate

outdoors in the fall?

I would love to know what you think about the fall porch decor

...are you using a bit of
black and white too?

If you are looking for some ways
to add fall to your home, check these out.
I hope this has inspired you to add some fall porch decor.

For me, Fall is here!

Just click on the photo below to see what I am shopping on Amazon and see some of my favorites that I have bought for our home. It always helps to have the addition of a few new pieces to add to my fall decor.

Cozy up the comes fall!

Even though our pool is still getting some use,
if you are like me, you are starting to think about fall.
Have a wonderful weekend!
